Let me be honest, I am a lover of great documentaries. I’ve always believed that there is only one way to keep history alive and that is to document it.
HISTORICAL DISASTERS (52mins) tells the terrible story of a tragic event that crippled a coal mining community. The movie starts with the history of coal mining, with the documentary film maker (Steve Looker) taking you down a coal mine, then using computer graphic reconstructions the film shows how mining has evolved. The film then moves up a gear to the disaster at the Pretoria Pit (Bolton, England) by the good use of actual pictures of the terrible aftermath, interviewing local experts and families of those involved.
“Pretoria Pit was the second biggest coal mining disaster in the history of British mining” as said on the documentary. By making this film the film maker (Steve Looker) is trying to keep the story alive. This DVD is three things, one: very entertaining (its got a good pace and is very involving), two, detailed (an enormous amount of research must have gone into making this film) three: emotive (the DVD left a big question in my mined, politically and emotionally).
